Synergy Chiropractic Therapies

At Synergy Chiropractic, we utilise a combination of therapies which are a direct result of the various skills and methods our Director has acquired through training and over the course of his career.

A treatment session more than likely involves Soft Tissue Massage and Targeted Joint Manipulation, but may also involve Dry Needling, Stretching, Mobilisations, and more, when there is a clinical need.

We call this a 'Therapeutic Toolbox'.

Why does it matter?

A collection of therapeutic tools is more likely to be able to address the various issues that present themselves in the patients that visit the clinic, and to provide benefit in a more holistic way, than if a single therapeutic method was used.

You may have heard the phrase "If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail".

That is the main philosophy of Synergy Chiropractic, which informs the way we conduct treatments at the clinic. If one therapeutic tool is getting a result that can be further strengthened by the use of another, then using them to complete the 'repair' task makes complete sense.


Frequently Asked Questions

What happens at my first visit?

Your Synergy Chiropractor/Sports Therapist will ask you focussed questions and listen to you as you describe your problem(s). They will notate pertinent information regarding it, and record other aspects of your medical history. You will then undergo a detailed physical examination, including orthopaedic and neurological testing. Your Clinician will then suggest a course of action/ treatment plan, which is appropriate to your condition(s).

How long are appointments?

An Initial Consultation, including treatment (where appropriate), will last approximately 40 minutes. Any subsequent treatments thereafter, will last approximately 20 minutes.

Is chiropractic safe?

Yes. Our Chiropractors are expert primary contact healthcare professionals. Your health and wellbeing is our first concern. Just as Medical practitioners and Physiotherapists are registered with and regulated by the General Medical Council (GMC) and Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) respectively, all Chiropractors are registered (by law under the Chiropractors Act 1994) with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC). The title 'Chiropractor' is protected under legislation and it is illegal to practice as a chiropractor without being registered with the GCC.

How many treatments will I need?

This will depend on your particular problem, its’ severity, and the duration of symptoms. Different people respond at different rates, and it also depends on your commitment to the suggested treatment programme (including doing exercises and taking lifestyle advice). Your Synergy Chiropractor will inform you of your Diagnosis, Prognosis, and Treatment Plan once they have examined you. Generally, the more chronic (long term) your condition(s) are, the longer it will take to respond to treatment.

Is the treatment painful?

No, the treatment itself isn’t designed to cause ‘pain’. If your problem has been untreated for a while, or of an irritable nature, you may experience some discomfort during and for a short while after treatment. Post-treatment soreness can last between 24 to 72 hours, at varying intensities. If you have a condition that involves notable pain and this is expected, your Synergy Chiropractor will inform you of it and tell you how to best minimise it.

Do I need to consult my GP first?

No. Registered Chiropractors are able to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal conditions independently, without the need for a referral from a GP or other healthcare professional. At Synergy Chiropractic, the majority of our patients make appointments of their own accord, or have been referred by a friend or family member. We also have many referrals from GPs, Massage Therapists and other Health Care Specialists.

Can I claim money back on my private health insurance plan?

Synergy are approved for treatment and covered by most major insurance providers. You should check with your insurance provider for details, and to confirm they will give you approval, for covering your treatment costs. It is our policy that patients pay us and then make a claim from their insurers for the reimbursement of the cost of their treatments (where possible). We are able to provide detailed receipts in order to assist in the process.

Can I have chiropractic treatment during pregnancy?

Yes. Pregnancy is a good time to have chiropractic care, as your body is undergoing rapid changes that are designed to create a new being, and your musculoskeletal system is susceptible to additional stresses and strains specific to this unique situation. At Synergy Chiropractic, we have treated women throughout all stages of pregnancy, and are happy to discuss with you how this takes place, and answer any queries should you have any concerns.

Will I need X-rays, MRIs, or CTs?

The majority of our patients do not need X-Rays, MRIs or CTs. However, there are some that do, and we will make an appropriate referral to your GP or a Private Clinic if necessary. This will be discussed with you ahead of time.

What is a Chiropractor?

Chiropractic is a primary health-care profession that specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and overall management of conditions that arise within with the joints, ligaments, muscles, tendons, and nerves of the body.

Emphasis is particularly paid (but not limited to) the complex joints of the spine.

Treatment consists of a wide range of manipulative and soft tissue techniques, designed to improve the function of the musculoskeletal system by; reducing muscle spasm, improving mobility, and alleviating pain.
